Starting from the Trotting Park Road parking area in Lowell, this easy route begins on an old roadbed heading east through mixed forest. Stay left at the next road junction to reach Carney Road. Turn left on Carney Road, then follow Trotting Park Road north briefly before taking the next left onto the Healthy Heart Trail. At the y-intersection, stay right, then turn left to continue winding through the forest until reconnecting with Trotting Park Road. From here, turn left for a short stretch, then make another left onto an old roadbed back into wooded terrain — be mindful of nearby private property.
The trail continues south with an optional side route that loops near a pond along Scarlet Brook. To stay on the main trail, turn right at junction marker T7, then follow a left at T9 and another left at T10. The route skirts the pond’s southern edge before meeting a road grade and reconnecting with the trailhead near marker L5. Wooden footbridges cross wetland sections and stream channels along the way. While the terrain remains gentle, sections may be muddy after rainfall. This peaceful forest walk offers easy navigation, steady footing, and quiet waterside stretches along the brook.
