Loop
This route begins near the main parking area off North Road in Great Brook Farm State Park. From the lot, head north on Litchfield Loop for a short distance, then veer right onto Chicken Trail. Stay right to briefly rejoin Litchfield Loop, then turn left onto Stone Row Trail. Continue east to reach Woodchuck Trail and turn left, passing several junctions before continuing east. At the next signed intersection, stay left onto Deer Run, then loop back to Woodchuck Trail. Cross North Road and continue onto Pine Point Loop, following it south and around Meadow Pond to return to the trailhead.
The trail winds through mixed hardwood forest, alongside ponds and wetlands, and across wide old farm roads suitable for both hiking and mountain biking. Wildlife sightings are common, especially white-tailed deer, red-tailed hawks, and turtles near the water’s edge. In spring and summer, look for wildflowers and ferns along shaded sections of trail. The area also holds natural and cultural history, with stone walls and forest roads tracing the park’s agricultural past. Trail markers are present but can be easy to miss—GPS navigation is recommended. Dogs are allowed, though leash rules may apply. In winter, many trails are groomed for cross-country skiing, which may limit foot access. With a dense network of connecting trails, hikers can easily create longer or shorter outings. This is a versatile and scenic day hike option in eastern Massachusetts.
