Description
This short trail network begins at the end of Velvet Rocks Drive in Hanover and climbs gradually through a conserved upland forest. Start on Oli’s Eagle Trail, which ascends the wooded ridge over a mix of packed soil and exposed rock. After a short distance, turn right onto the Greensboro Highlands Trail, a moderate loop connector that meanders across varied terrain with small climbs and scenic clearings. Continue to the junction with the Silent Brook Trail and turn right again to complete the route, descending gently toward neighborhood access points near Silent Brook Drive. Highlights include ferny forest floors, granite outcrops, and quiet woodland sections with intermittent streams. Oli’s Eagle also connects to the Appalachian Trail, offering an option to extend the hike. Sturdy footwear is recommended for rocky sections, and signage along the loop makes navigation straightforward. This is one of the best short forest hikes near Hanover for a peaceful walk in the woods with moderate elevation change.
