The H. Knauber Trail begins and ends at the Clarks Valley Road parking area near Tower City, forming a moderately strenuous route through the forested terrain of State Game Lands Number 211. From the trailhead, start by heading southeast on the Appalachian Trail for a short distance, then turn right at the first signed junction. Continue by taking a left at each of the next four trail junctions. This sequence roughly parallels Rattling Run before gradually turning northeast and climbing toward the high point at the Stony Mountain Lookout Tower.
From the tower area, continue bearing left at successive junctions to reconnect with the Appalachian Trail and return to the trailhead. The route includes rocky sections, seasonal stream crossings, and steady elevation changes through a mix of hardwood forest and ridge terrain. Though this route is not named on official PGC maps, it follows a well-established path within the broader SGL 211 trail network and offers potential connections to nearby routes. Be prepared for variable trail conditions and review Pennsylvania Game Commission regulations—especially during hunting seasons, when orange clothing is strongly recommended.
