This moderate segment of the Finger Lakes Trail begins near NY Route 206 just outside Bainbridge and travels northwesterly to the Basswood Trail intersection near Masonville. From the trailhead, the route climbs steadily into forested hills, entering the Coventry State Forest. The trail crosses a mix of public and private lands—portions of the route pass through private property with official hiking easements, so it’s important to stay on the marked Finger Lakes Trail corridor at all times.
The route weaves through rolling terrain with a mix of hardwood and conifer forest. Seasonal streams appear near the midpoint, offering limited water access with purification. Farther along, the trail enters Basswood State Forest and passes a rustic lean-to near the segment’s end. Wildlife sightings are common, including deer, turkeys, and songbirds. This route connects easily with adjacent Finger Lakes Trail segments for extended hiking options.
