Loop
This route begins at the Cole Pond Parking Area and follows a well-maintained network of trails through forested terrain within the Eastman Community. From the trailhead, head west toward Cole Pond, a quiet, tree-lined body of water that marks the start of the route. Continue past the pond to reach a signed junction with the Eastman Trails system. Turn left here and follow the route south as it gradually climbs through hardwood forest. Around the midway point, the trail curves west toward Anderson Pond, passing through a mix of pine and wetland terrain that can be muddy in spring or after rain. Between Cole and Anderson ponds, watch for a marked side trail leading south to Butternut Pond—a short detour worth taking for additional pond views and potential wildlife sightings.
At Anderson Pond, hikers can pause to enjoy open views across the water and the chance to spot loons or other wildlife. The trail wraps around the pond’s southern edge before turning west to close the loop. The route features modest elevation gain, sections of uneven footing, and limited signage, so a map or GPS is recommended for first-time visitors. This quiet forest walk offers a peaceful experience on less-traveled trails with multiple opportunities for pondside views and wildlife sightings.
