Trail Overview
The Slate Creek/Dry Dallas OHV Trail System is a premier loop for ATVs, SxSs, and dirt bikes seeking a scenic mountain escape east of Grand Teton National Park. This route winds through flourishing creek bottoms and climbs over high passes, offering riders an immersive experience in western Wyoming's wild terrain. While sun-soaked stretches present smooth, fast-rolling dirt paths, the trail demands respect with seasonal challenges. A deep ford of the Gros Ventre River and potential flooding along the valley floor require careful planning and timing, particularly during the late spring snowmelt.
Navigating this system requires a high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicle or capable off-highway vehicle to handle deep mud holes and the river crossing safely. The trail surface is primarily dirt, which can turn into slick, wheel-swallowing mud during wet periods. Because the loop travels directly through active grizzly bear and elk habitat, carrying bear spray and practicing proper wildlife safety are essential. Staging is available at the Slate Creek Trailhead, reached by taking Gros Ventre Road east from Kelly and turning north onto Forest Road 30380.
