Trail Overview

FS 3060 is a two-track trail that runs from County Road F to Knowles Creek Road. This trail is one of the most challenging and technical in this area, thanks to its defining sandy hill climb/ washout section. This hill climb is steep and generally long, traversing about 60-80 feet vertically. There are two large ruts that run on each side of the trail, as well as a large washout that begins to move across the trail diagonally. These washouts and ruts are anywhere from 12" to 18" deep. This will test the articulation of most mildly built vehicles, especially those without a locking diff. A line to avoid the largest section of washout is challenging due to the large sandy wall on each edge of the trail. Additionally, this can also make vehicles feel tippy, as the angle created by this wall and washout is severe, and the sand is relatively unsupportive. It is possible to do this trail without lockers, but a precise line and a good amount of articulation are needed. The trail is the most challenging when traveled from County Rd F to Knowles Creek Rd. Traveling this direction will allow for climbing the hill, rather than descending it. The remainder of the trail is mild in comparison, with a handful of small mud holes and some very mild ruts. The terrain surrounding this trail is mostly overgrown forest. While this area is very hilly, it is hidden by the overgrowth located around the trail. Cell service in this area can be spotty, and traveling with downloaded maps is recommended if unfamiliar with the trails.

Difficulty

This trail has a large washout on the face of a hill climb, which is its predominant feature. The largest point of the washout is up to 18 in., depending on sand and rock placement at that time. Good articulation, or at least one locker, is needed to complete this trail. The incline created by the washout is steep. While not likely, there is the possibility of a narrow, top-heavy rig overturning if an incorrect line is chosen. The remainder of the trail is a typical Wisconsin two-track.
