Trail Overview

Berrys Lane is a there-and-back style trail with an endpoint turnaround that provides access to a couple of other trails in this section of the Nicolet National Forest. This trail begins at its intersection with West Lane and navigates northwest along the state forest's boundary with the Forest County Potawatomi Community Land. This trail begins as a two-vehicle-wide gravel road, but once it passes the intersection with Deep Hole Lake Road, it quickly turns into a two-track trail. For a two-track trail within the Nicolet National Forest, this trail is very spacious compared to others. For the most part, pin stripping from overhanging trees will not be a problem on this trail thanks to the well-maintained trail sides. The trail itself is a mildly rough, bumpy dirt road with several mud/water holes that appear along its length. There are moderate rolling elevation changes across the trail's length, with a high point being located around the trail's halfway point. This is a great spot to get some fall color views, and provides unique views from each direction. There are several blind corners located around this trail. Cell service in this area is spotty at best, and traveling with downloaded maps is a must if this area is unknown. The eastern end of this trail serves as a groomed snowmobile trail in the winter months.

Difficulty

This is a mild trail that a wide range of vehicles can complete, and a wide skill set of drivers can conquer. The trail has forgiving terrain with obstacles that do not pose too much of a challenge. There are several low spots around the trail that will develop into mud holes and water spots after rainfall. Additionally, the trail surface is uneven and bumpy. Several blind corners can obstruct the views of the oncoming trail. Moreover, most of this trail is only one vehicle wide and will require vehicles to slow or come to a stop in order to safely pass.
