Trail Overview
This is an out-and-back forest road in the Gauley Ranger District of Monongahela National Forest. It is notable as it provides access to some hiking and biking opportunities, and past the gate to old FS 99, which you will encounter about 2/3 of the way down. This trail will also provide access to several private tracts of land, so be certain of your location and obey posted signs. It's a short scenic ride to the end with a few interesting rock formations along the way. It loses about 200 feet of elevation before climbing about 800 to the end, where the road has been blocked. There are no dispersed sites along this Forest Service route. The route begins near a small country club.
Difficulty
This route starts as gravel and becomes rockier near the end, but should generally be accessible by any street-legal vehicle. Those without high clearance may choose to turn around at the fork to the old FR 99 that turns left.
History
The gated old FS 99 was closed in December 2025 due to helicopter logging operations. It may reopen in the future. See USFS order posted on the tree to the left of the gate.
