Trail Overview

Set within a thick, verdant forest of tall pine and fir trees, W-1055 presents a very brief, highly utilitarian out-and-back spur in the Pacific Northwest timberlands. Recently constructed in 2026 to support active logging operations, this short 1.1-mile track was blazed directly through the dense woods, leaving cleared logs, exposed roots, and pushed brush piled high along the immediate shoulders. Motorized explorers venturing down this path will find it serves no recreational purpose; there is no access to the surrounding forest, and absolutely zero dispersed camping opportunities exist along the corridor. The driving surface consists of an extremely narrow dirt and crushed rock base covered in heavy, freshly laid loose gravel, earning a cautious Grade 2 difficulty rating. Because the track is newly cut, it lacks compacted stability and features deep drainage ditches immediately flanking both sides of the travel line. Drivers must maintain a very slow, deliberate pace, as the loose surface material can be treacherous and slippery, especially following seasonal rains. The route ultimately concludes abruptly at a dead end within the timber, requiring a careful turnaround to exit back the way you came.

Difficulty

This brief 1.1-mile out-and-back spur features a newly constructed, unpredictable dirt and heavy gravel foundation. While extreme technical off-road obstacles like large boulders or steep rock ledges are absent, the route presents significant non-technical hazards. The primary challenge is the exceptionally narrow corridor bordered immediately by deep drainage ditches, leaving absolutely no room for error. The roadbed is composed of deep, loose, unconsolidated gravel that drastically reduces tire traction and can become dangerously unstable and slick during wet conditions. Drivers must proceed slowly, avoid the soft shoulders near the ditches, and execute a very careful turnaround at the abrupt dead end to avoid becoming stuck in the loose surface material.
