Trail Overview

The trail winds through conifer forests, where towering trees line the path. As you ascend, the dense forests gradually give way to meadows and clearings. You'll encounter large boulders and small rock obstacles that may slow you down as you navigate the best tire placements. The stunning destination at the end of the trail is Gallagher Head Lake.

This was a rough ride as it’s loose dirt and rocks and steep in areas. Not sure this is a 3/10 as it’s very technical with large rocks, washes, v notches, and very rocky. Seemingly all rocks are in soft dirt as they all move! Great ride but I’d put it much higher than 3. I also 4x4 and I think this would be a 5-6 in most vehicles and good chance of light vehicle damage if not high clearance and at least 35’s. Not impossible just too many ups & downs in a short distance so you’d definitely drag front and or rear.

At 5,400 ft. In elevation, the trail really starts to get gnarly! The washouts on this trail, and the trail in general has changed a lot.

This was in August 2025 but Onx won't allow you select the correct date right now. Agree with other folks that this should be rated at least a 4. I have stock ground clearance for my 4runner and was on my skids almost the whole time. For a 2 or 4 door wrangler this would be a 3, but anything longer this should really be at least a 4 rating. So be warned, if you are stock height like me, have underbody protection!

I did this back on September 18th. By far the hardest trail I’ve done so far. Some pretty sketchy sections but I had no problems in my stock lx470 with 33s.

We went as far as the lake. We made it up with a stock '90 Isuzu Trooper with 31' tires and open diffs, and a '96 Tacoma with 3' lift and 33" tires and open diffs, with my teenagers driving both rigs. Its a tough track, specifically the climbs with moguls. Proper line and momentum is key. Underbody protection on lower vehicles would be a good idea.

Pretty awesome Trail not to difficult. We were able to get a Subaru Forester wilderness edition up the entire Jeep trail, granted it had sliders and 2” lift and wild peak AT4 tires.

This should probably be a 4 out of 10 rather than a 3. There’s a couple sections where stock 4x4s won’t do well without rear lockers and carefully picking your line. That said I was able to do this in my stock Pro4x xterra.
