Trail Overview
Tyee Lookout Road is a 4.2-mile out-and-back single-lane gravel route that climbs steeply from approximately 4,400 feet to 6,600 feet, ending at Tyee Lookout. The road is generally well-maintained but features steep water bars that may make travel difficult for low-clearance vehicles. The turnaround at the lookout is small and may be difficult for full-size vehicles. Tyee Lookout Road is open year-round.
Difficulty
Tyee Lookout Road is suitable for most high-clearance vehicles, as the steep climb and large water bars can make travel difficult for low-clearance vehicles. The primary challenges include uneven terrain and abrupt elevation changes caused by water bars, which may require careful approach angles. Weather conditions, such as rain, can increase difficulty, particularly when the surface becomes slick. As with most trails in the area, bringing a chainsaw or equipment to clear fallen trees is recommended.
