Trail Overview
Twilight - FS 5480112 is an easy-to-moderate forest road that winds through the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest above Keechelus Lake. The route is primarily packed dirt and gravel with scattered rocks, shallow ruts, and a few rough sections that can become muddy after rain or snowmelt. Most high-clearance SUVs and stock 4WD vehicles will have no trouble in dry conditions. Along the drive, you'll pass through quiet stands of fir and pine with occasional openings that offer scenic views of Keechelus Lake, surrounding ridgelines, and nearby mountain peaks.
Twilight makes an excellent starting point for exploring the area. Side trips include hiking to Mirror, Cottonwood, and Twilight Lakes or continuing toward Lost Lake for more backcountry scenery. Dispersed camping opportunities can be found along nearby forest roads, making it a great basecamp for a weekend adventure. During the fall, the area is popular for hunting, while year-round visitors may spot elk, deer, black bears, grouse, and a variety of birds. Be sure to practice Leave No Trace principles and check seasonal road conditions and fire restrictions before heading out.
Note there is a washout at 47°19'35.5"N 121°24'43.1"W. It is passable with most higher ground clearance SUVs.
