Trail Overview
Schriebers Meadows is a 5.3-mile out-and-back route that climbs a wide shelf road through the mountains via a series of switchbacks. The road is generally easy to follow but becomes rougher near the upper end, where water damage and embedded rock are more common. The route ends at the Schriebers Meadows Trailhead, which features a large parking area and campground. Due to the popularity of the area, campground stays are limited to a single night. Schriebers Meadows serves as the primary access point for several popular hiking routes and is one of the busiest recreation destinations in the region. Schriebers Meadows is open year-round to highway-legal vehicles.
Difficulty
Schriebers Meadows is generally an easier route, though drivers should expect rougher road conditions near the upper end of the trail. Water damage, embedded rock, and steeper switchbacks may require reduced speeds and careful tire placement in some areas. Most high-clearance vehicles should have little difficulty reaching the trailhead, though passenger cars may find the rougher upper sections uncomfortable. Due to the popularity of the trailhead, users should also expect increased traffic, particularly during summer weekends. As with most trails in the area, bringing a chainsaw or equipment to clear fallen trees is recommended.
