Trail Overview
Red Devil Trail #1221 is a challenging multi-use singletrack trail in the Wenatchee River Ranger District, offering off-road motorcyclists, mountain bikers, and hikers an exciting journey through steep forested ridges and open scenic hillsides.
Difficulty
This is an intermediate trail mostly due to narrow segments of side-hilling with significant exposure. The trail is not particularly rocky and doesn’t have any major ledges or rock obstacles. It does make tight turns as it side-hills, with blind corners, and has some steep spots of climbing and descending. Riders should have some experience in this type of exposed terrain. Since this trail goes through a burn area, it will likely require extensive log cutting in early season every year, but as of July 2026 it was clear of any logs due to extensive work from local volunteers that maintain the trails. Watch out for new log hazards.
Access Description
A valid Digital Pass, Northwest Forest Pass, or Interagency Recreation Pass is required for each vehicle parked at both Devils Gulch and Red Hill trailheads. Washington State Discover Passes are not valid at US Fee Sites. Day use fee is $5 per vehicle per day. Motorized users must have a valid Washington State ORV permit and a US Forest Service-approved spark arrestor. The trail is subject to seasonal closures during winter and early spring to protect wildlife and prevent trail damage during wet conditions; it typically opens in mid-April.
