Trail Overview

Prepare for water, mud, dust, roots and rocks. This trail has it all. In deep, thick forest so it stays wet for several weeks after a good rain. Mud is very slick red clay. Sections of fast flow trail and tight technical sections with small rock climbs and tall tree roots. This will take you over a couple bridges, through thick forest and into clearings with nice views. (ATV's over 48" will be too wide for this trail). This long, winding trail is part of a 3 part trail system of the North Rim Trail. Section #3 of the North Rim Trail Starts/finishes at the Porter Creek Campground. Access to the Porter Creek Campground has been temporarily closed for at least the 2026 season. To access this trail, you'll need to either start at Rock Candy or ride in from a different area. Trail is 2 way so watch for other riders. Note that all Capitol Forest trails are ONLY open May 1-November 30. CLOSED to motorized use the rest of the year. Be aware of cyclists, hikers and other riders

Difficulty

This trail's difficulty depends on the time of year. While being ridable for beginners, they should proceed with caution. When wet, there are ruts and mud holes that have hidden obstacles that get very deep and slick. Expect to have wet feet. Great for riders of all skill but will be slightly more challenging due to slick nature of trail. When dry, it is much faster and easier to ride. Most obstacles are avoidable but will be trickier for riders on ATV's. NOTE: Trail is only wide enough for 48" ATV
