Trail Overview
Meloy Canyon Road offers a scenic and approachable climb for drivers of all skill levels, delivering panoramic views of the rugged Washington foothills. Starting near the community of Nile off Highway 410, this well-maintained forest service route winds its way up toward Bethel Ridge, providing an excellent gateway to the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest. Because of active logging operations in the area, much of the dense timber has been cleared, opening up sweeping vistas of the surrounding valleys and distant peaks. The trail is primarily comprised of a wide, graded gravel surface, making it easily passable for high-clearance two-wheel-drive vehicles, stock SUVs, four-wheel-drive vehicles, and SxSs during the dry season.
As the road climbs higher, travelers will experience a steady elevation gain with mild switchbacks, though the track remains straightforward and free of major off-road obstacles like deep ruts or large rocks. Due to active timber harvesting, visitors should remain alert for heavy logging equipment and oncoming commercial trucks, which always have the right of way. While the route is typically accessible from late spring through late autumn, winter snows will close the road to wheeled vehicles, turning it into a winter recreation playground. Dispersed camping opportunities can be found along the route and near Bethel Ridge, making this an ideal starting point for a multi-day adventure in the Yakima River valley region.
Access Description
Active logging operations are common in this area, and commercial trucks always have the right of way. While traveling through Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest lands, a Northwest Forest Pass or other recreation pass may be required for parking at trailheads or dispersed campsites.
