Trail Overview

This is a forest road that starts as gravel and quickly transitions to dirt. The trail is very narrow, one lane wide, and mostly two-track with overgrown vegetation. There are sections where the trail has a ledge/dropoff as it gradually changes in elevation, gaining and then losing nearly 500 feet. The forest is dense, but it opens up in areas and provides views of the surrounding peaks as well as of Hooknose Mountain and the Pend Orielle River. Camping is allowed along most of this route; however, the beginning is private property belonging to a mining company. The cellphone service was weak, and there were no amenities. The nearest services and supplies are in Metaline Falls, approximately 20 minutes away. Any vehicle could traverse this trail, but full-size pickups and vans can expect severe pinstriping.
