Trail Overview

This trail consists of hard-packed dirt and sharp basalt rocks that can easily puncture a tire. It includes steep climbs and descents. It is advisable to carry a spare tire and a tire patch kit. The wide-open terrain offers visibility for many miles in any direction, and there are pullouts available along the way. The trail width accommodates one to two vehicles.

Climbing out of the Columbia River area, there are several tight switchbacks climbing up the side of the hills. Both trucks (Tacoma , Dodge diesel short) were able to successfully climb out. Take it slow and cautiously at times. There was one washout to traverse, again both rigs made it. Very dusty on top, very rough everywhere else. Lots of basalt.

Really rough and washed out. Some of the washouts are 15-20" deep trenches running along the edge of the trail. The creeks are running deeper than normal. The West Bar Rd gate is closed and locked until April 30th for Elk migrations. Access to Brewton Gulch/Tekison Cr Rd is available if you want to make a complete loop.
