Trail Overview
Brushy Road is a 4.2-mile point-to-point route within the Whiskey Dick Wildlife Area, offering expansive views of the surrounding landscape and access to many dispersed camping sites. The road can be wide in some sections, then narrow and rougher in others, with embedded basalt rock, moderate potholes, and rutted areas that can become muddy when wet. Due to these conditions, travel can be slow going for most of the trail. This trail traverses open grazing areas, so keep an eye out for cows! Brushy Road is open year-round and requires a Discovery Pass for access.
Difficulty
Brushy Road is best suited for high-clearance vehicles, as sharp, embedded basalt rock and rutted sections can make the route unsuitable for low-clearance vehicles. The primary challenge is the rough, uneven surface, which can significantly slow travel and requires careful tire placement. Sections may also become muddy when wet, further complicating the trail. Weather conditions such as rain can increase difficulty, particularly in muddy areas. As with most trails in the area, bringing a chainsaw or equipment to clear fallen trees is recommended.
