Trail Overview
This is a short but rewarding route. This route goes down a farm road between private fields to public lands access that opens up to views that are breathtaking and incredible. The route ends on an overlook that is 1000 feet above the Sun Lakes. The view allows you to look from Banks Lake all the way down to Soap Lake. Elton is approximately 20 miles apart. There are 7 of the 12 lakes visible from the overlook. Then the trail starts on a gravel road and then turns to a rough, dusty two-track that is fairly easily navigable for decent offroad vehicles. This is a very difficult trail if the conditions are wet. The route becomes very slick and muddy when the season is wet. The route is very dusty during the dry season.
Difficulty
The route is fairly easy when dry, but is very slick when wet. The route has some deeper ruts and gets worse when wet. The ground is hydric during the winter and spring months, and conditions become unpredictable. The weather in the area during the late winter and early spring can bring surprises like sudden snow or rain squalls.
