Trail Overview

Hatchery is a 0.9-mile out-and-back route open to street-legal vehicles within the Mount Baker National Forest. The route follows a narrow mountainside shelf road with scenic views overlooking the Skagit Valley. Brush encroachment steadily narrows the roadway, with several sections requiring careful vehicle placement. Beyond the mapped endpoint, vegetation becomes so dense that the route is virtually impassable to full-size vehicles.

Difficulty

Hatchery is rated easy. The road surface presents few technical challenges, but the narrow shelf-road alignment and heavy brush encroachment require careful driving. Expect light to moderate pinstriping, particularly near the end of the mapped route. Most high-clearance vehicles should have little difficulty under normal conditions.
