Trail Overview

This road accesses the Palouse to Cascades, or Iron Horse trail, as well as a number of other trailheads and forest service roads. While the main road is relatively tame, there is a small 4x4 area with some fun climbs and obstacles ranging from mild to wild, that are great for beginners to test out a new vehicle or practice their spotting and driving abilities. Bring along an extra trash bag and help do your part to leave this place better than you found it, as many have abused this privilege in the past. The road is closed in winter and is often covered in snow in early spring and late fall.

Easy scenic trail, honestly a car could do it if you drove carefully. Good beginner trail, a handful of other people out there.

I went out super early. I think I got there at 4 am. To go watch the sunrise. Easy trial. Kinda rough the further you go but it’s not that bad. Always a fun little spot to go on and just try some rough stuff. My stock lx fully flexed out basically.

amazing view as always, in a previous report I made, I talked about going further up past, minecreek. I went to about 2900 ft before I turned around Becuase there was some very slick snow drifts and didn’t wanna do anything stupid because I was by myself. That upper section is definitely a level 3 very similar to minecreek.

Never got a pic of it but. It looks like a grader smoothed out the trail till the closed off power line trail. Same as normal no snow on the ground just solid frozen ground some icy spots before the shooting range on the hill after mine creek turn off so watch out.

No snow on the main part of the trail. Maybe little bit here and there but it’s just slush. If you were to go up to mine creek and didn’t turn right and followed the “main road” left And you keep going up. Snow starts about 2400-2500 feet didn’t go up much further Becuase they are pretty steep and I’ve never been up there before so we turned around.

Went about half way up. Becuase I just got my lights put on by mule. And stopped half way up Becuase well I didn’t feel comfortable driving in the snow on these steep roads. I stopped before the big hill after the shooting range. Snow was no more than 1.5”

Clear all the way to the end same as normal besides a couple of trimmed trees. The turn off to go to mine creek has a tree over it but I was short enough to drive under it. It’s still blocked further up tho.

Trail was very wet had no issues with mud. there was incredible dense fog up there(last picture shows the view from between the power lines). Same as last time saw a couple people who spent the night up there.
