Trail Overview

This is an easy trail if you stay on the main tracks--mostly gravel roads, with some asphalt mixed in. There are plenty of places to venture off the main track and find mud, tight technical spots, and some camp areas. It gets tight and slippery back there; I advise going with another vehicle or having self-recovery gear. Once you get to the T intersection after the mudhole, turn around and go back through again; the two trails end. Or go back there for a camp spot. Note: Full-size trucks are not advisable through there. You will have body damage near the entrance; it's pretty tight. A quarry is also set up for shooting, where you will find plenty of brass and shotgun shells. Sadly, not many people pick up their garbage or shells. The trail is pretty basic and easy. Go up and explore-there are beautiful views! The gate getting to Capitol Peak was closed this time around. The trail is dusty in the fall, so go for some fun snow runs during the winter.

Difficulty

The way point "Mudhole" will require 4wd, and HIGHLY recommend another vehicle for recovery or a winch if you don't have lockers. There is a few tight semi technical spots on this short side run.

6-8” of snow in parts. Powdery in the morning but got slick in the afternoon where the sun hit it. Very few other vehicles in the mid-morning. One truck slid into a ditch on a particularly slick spot but loaned him traction boards and he got out.

Chill drive through the forest on a nice weekend. Lots of opportunities for recreation along the way. Some people target shooting, plenty of mountain bikers. I hiked up to capitol peak for some views. Easy gravel roads. Unfortunately, plenty of trash in many of the campsites/shooting sites. Please leave it cleaner than you found it!

Lots of muddy potholes along the main route made for a very wet and bumpy ride. Very windy towards the peaks. Started from Waddell Creek Rd. entrance and ended at Highway 8 with logging trail detours interspersed.
