Trail Overview
Little Cedar, designated as Forest Road 320, is a seasonally open route with access from April 1 through January 10. The entrance can be easy to miss from Cheatham Road, but a small vertical sign marking 320 is posted at the start. A no trespassing sign is also present near the entrance; this applies to the land on the left side of the trail. The first 1,000 feet of the trail passes through a U.S. Forest Service easement that provides access to the George Washington National Forest.
The trail begins with a descent down a narrow, rutted, and rocky section. This initial drop is the most difficult portion of the route and requires careful tire placement. Once past this opening stretch, the trail becomes significantly more relaxed and transitions into a scenic drive through pines and hardwoods. The corridor opens up, vegetation remains low, and the road surface becomes smoother and easier to navigate.
Dispersed camping is permitted after the first 1,000 feet, and the trail offers several good campsite options along its length. Little Cedar ends in a small loop that provides ample space for multiple vehicles to turn around or for use as a larger campsite.
Difficulty
The first 1,000 feet of easement into the trail is the most difficult; roughly 8-10 inches deep ruts will require ground clearance to pass. Beyond this challenge, the trail is much easier and would be rated as a 1.
