Trail Overview

Dry Gap is a short step, out and back trail climbing along a ridge leading to a cell tower. The beginning climb is the most challenging part due to its steep nature; 4WD is recommended. The sweeping views from the ridge are incredible when no leaves are on the trees following the border of Virginia and West Virginia.

This is a short graded and gravel road. It's basically just an access road to the communication towers. There is one spot that has a bit of a view where the power lines go down the hill.

Well-maintained and very easy gravel road. You could do this trail in a broken-down minivan with flat tires… the max grade on this is only 10degrees - and that’s only for about 10 feet. Unless you run into ice I don’t see anybody having any problem getting all the way up to the tower. There’s a nice view of the valley from the power line RoW, but this time of year you can’t otherwise see much through the trees despite being on the spine of a very narrow ridge. Hawk Trail (no motorized use) parallels this trail, and there are some campsites just a short walk off this trail…but not really any place to park your vehicle overnight.
