Trail Overview

This route is comprised of Vermont dirt farm roads and some class 4 roads. This scenic drive samples some of northern Vermont's beautiful country settings and looks into the farming community. It is not a very technical drive, just very beautiful and enjoyable. Great drive during the summer but the fall was truly amazing with the fall colors.

A great road off the beaten path with a lot of houses, camps and farms and forest in places. Saw less than 10 other vehicles in 3 hours. Only used 4WD twice for short distances. NOTE: do not recommend the southern part of Hill West Road for non-high clearance vehicles. Pretty high boulders protruding could get you in trouble. Expected good fall colors, but colors very poor. Explore Fall app very inaccurate. Took a short off route jog to Bakersfield. A very charming gorgeous small town with no fast food or Dollar Stores. Picnic tables in small town park on village green. A very pleasant low key uncrowded drive. Was surprised to see that so many Vermonters live in remote back hollow areas. Also surprised to see corn being grown on moderate sloping land. It was a great trip but if you want good fall color at peak foliage time, this is not the trip to take. But this has been a very dry year. Perhaps the tourist people stretched the fall color map to attracts out of area tourists.

Most of this trail is essentially dirt fire road, with houses and farms directly off it. In many ways, I’d hesitate to call it a trail at all. Virtually every crossover could handle it easily, and a brave man with a Camry could do the whole thing

Easy even with towing my small rv. Nice view, more interesting than taking the high way when coming from Canada!

Mostly gravel back roads with beautiful views and farmland scenery of VT. Well maintained. Gorgeous fall colors all around. Only 2 smaller sections that were a little rocky and narrow where we used 4 wheel drive in our Toyota 4Runner, but nothing crazy. Took about 2 hours to do the whole route.

Only did the section between Waterville and the first junction with 108. Roads were extremely muddy. Stock ‘19 SR5 Tacoma with Cooper AT3’s made it just fine in 4x4. Definitely the chance to get stuck depending on vehicle though.
