Trail Overview
This Vermont Class 4 road offers an enjoyable experience for beginners and experienced off-roaders alike, with several places to turn around if needed. The old road is passable in a Subaru Crosstrek with careful navigation and should provide an enjoyable ride for stock 4WD vehicles. The route branches off the main road and loops back to a point approximately one mile from the starting intersection. A long stretch of maple sugaring equipment runs alongside the trail for about two-thirds of the route before crossing over it. Taller, lifted vehicles should use caution when passing beneath the equipment.
Difficulty
This trail appears to follow a natural drainage path, with several moderate washouts along the route. While the washouts were manageable in a Subaru Crosstrek, they are noticeable and require some attention when navigating.
History
An online reference associates a structure on Mine Road, off Route 100C in Johnson, Vermont, with the historic Johnson Talc Mine and Mill, formerly operated by the Eastern Magnesia Talc Company and later American Mineral Co. The trail itself also has an intriguing history, potentially making it a fitting subject for stories about haunted highways.
