Trail Overview
Southside is an easy, 0.9-mile connecting trail on the southern end of Stansbury Island. The route has a nearly flat profile, starting around 4,215 feet and rising only 11 feet as it heads northeast away from the salt flats. It provides quick access to public land shooting areas and links to the broader Bureau of Land Management (BLM) trail network.
The dirt surface is suitable for beginners, stock high-clearance vehicles, and OHVs. While rated a 2 out of 10, the trail features occasional ruts and mud holes that can become slick and deep after wet weather. It is passable in dry conditions by most standard four-wheel-drive or high-clearance all-wheel-drive vehicles.
Difficulty
This connecting trail is less damaged than some of the others in the area, although there are still a couple of ruts and mud holes to navigate. It leads from the main road up to one of the many shooting areas, as well as connects to several other trails.
Access Description
The trail is located on BLM-managed public land. No permits or access fees are required to use this route. Target shooting is permitted on much of the island; visitors must follow all BLM firearm regulations, shoot in safe directions away from roads and campsites, and pack out all shell casings and targets.
