Trail Overview

D1052 is a useful building block for exploring the rugged Utah backcountry, providing a direct connection between Island in the Sky Road and Whitbecks Gate. The route passes through native desert vegetation and offers great views while skirting Whitbeck Rock. The surface varies between dirt, rock, and sand, with the main challenge coming from a substantial elevation change that creates a long climb or descent depending on the direction of travel. The steep section contains chunky, loose rocks that require careful line selection, good traction, steady momentum, and precise tire placement. The route is open to all vehicle types, and no permit is required. Cell service is fair, with approximately two bars of 5G reported on T-Mobile, although coverage may vary near canyon walls and higher points. There are no restrooms, developed campsites, or staging area amenities along the route.
