Trail Overview
BLM 62 is a highly engaging, 3.3-mile sandy two-track that playfully winds through an expansive, classic high-desert landscape. Initially meandering through wide-open, vibrant green sagebrush meadows under dramatically overcast skies, the trail offers sweeping regional views of the surrounding distant plateaus. As explorers proceed, the terrain seamlessly transitions from low desert scrub into patches of denser, fragrant juniper trees and even crosses through a beautifully secluded, grassy clearing. A major highlight of this deeply tracked route is the abundance of fantastic, swooping banked S-turns that naturally encourage a fun, fluid driving rhythm. Along the way, the path passes through a prominent, open yellow ranch gate structure and provides access to a couple of highly inviting, flat dispersed campsites perfect for a quiet overnight stay. The striking contrast of the vivid red sand against the lush green vegetation makes this a deeply immersive and photogenic off-road transit.
Difficulty
BLM 62 comfortably earns a Level 2 Easy technical rating entirely due to its persistently deep, exceptionally soft red sand. The route completely lacks severe rock-crawling ledges, steep ascents, or hazardous off-camber washouts. However, the deeply rutted, sweeping banked S-turns demand steady, deliberate momentum to prevent a vehicle from getting hopelessly bogged down. Because some of these sandy sections are quite deep, a high-clearance vehicle equipped with a true four-wheel-drive (4WD) system is strongly suggested. Airing down your tires before hitting the trail will drastically improve flotation, maintain essential traction, and provide a much smoother, more controlled ride through the curves.
