Trail Overview
BLM 60C is a delightfully secluded, 0.6-mile backcountry two-track that treats explorers to a classic, deeply immersive high-desert environment. This vividly colored, deeply rutted red-sand trail playfully winds its way through a dense, fragrant forest of mature green juniper trees and thick, rustic desert scrub. The striking contrast of the rich, soft orange sands against the lush, dark green vegetation and sweeping, beautifully overcast skies creates a remarkably picturesque journey. Along this remarkably quiet and winding corridor, backcountry enthusiasts will discover numerous flat, spacious dispersed campsites tucked neatly into the protective tree lines, making it an excellent destination for an isolated, peaceful overnight stay under the stars. Notably, travelers will encounter a clear boundary sign near the route designating that you are "Now Leaving Private Property" alongside a brown Carsonite post verifying the 60C trail, serving as a gentle reminder for drivers to always stay on the established path and respect local land borders.
Difficulty
BLM 60C confidently earns a Level 2 Easy technical rating entirely due to its persistently soft, deeply rutted red-sand surface. While the trail completely lacks intimidating rock-crawling ledges, severe off-camber washouts, or deep mud bogs, the exceptionally loose, shifting sand will quickly tax a vehicle's traction. Because of these deep sandy ruts, a high-clearance vehicle equipped with a true four-wheel-drive (4WD) system is highly recommended to safely and comfortably navigate the track without getting bogged down or scraping the undercarriage. Additionally, airing down your tires is strongly suggested to vastly improve essential flotation and maintain steady, deliberate momentum through the winding, heavily tracked turns.
