Trail Overview

Marked at its starting point by a distinct brown carsonite forest service post, BLM 101B is a remarkably quiet, little-used 1.1-mile backcountry double-track that invites explorers into a highly secluded high-desert setting. The deeply colored, soft red-sand path playfully meanders through a dense, visually striking landscape heavily populated by vibrant green juniper trees and thick, rustic desert scrub under beautifully expansive, clouded skies. As you navigate the tight and notably twisty sandy corridor, the encroaching vegetation creates a deeply immersive, isolated atmosphere. The remarkably scenic journey ultimately concludes at a fantastic, flat dispersed campsite situated perfectly on an elevated bluff. This stunning terminus provides off-roaders with breathtaking, sweeping views looking directly down into a rugged, picturesque side canyon, making it an idyllic, profoundly peaceful destination for an overnight stay or a quiet backcountry retreat.

Difficulty

BLM 101B confidently earns a Level 2 Easy technical rating, primarily dictated by its persistently deep and exceptionally soft red-sand surface. The distinctly winding route is entirely devoid of intimidating rock-crawling ledges, severe off-camber washouts, or deep mud bogs. However, the remarkably loose, shifting nature of the sand requires a driver to maintain steady momentum to successfully avoid getting bogged down on the tight turns. A standard AWD crossover, stock SUV, or high-clearance 2WD truck can manage this secluded route safely under standard dry conditions. Lowering your tire pressures before hitting the sand is highly recommended to vastly improve flotation, maintain essential traction, and increase overall ride comfort.
