Trail Overview

Overloop Bluff is an easy, scenic offroad route in Texas's Northwest OHV Park that offers spectacular views and accessible driving for all experience levels. Winding up a steady incline, this well-maintained forest road reaches a beautiful lookout point that provides panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and options for dispersed camping. The main route is a wide, smooth gravel road easily navigated by stock SUVs, SxSs, and high-clearance four-wheel-drive rigs, but multiple optional side play areas along the path feature more challenging technical obstacles for those looking to test their vehicles. Spanning approximately 1.6 miles, the route climbs gently from 934 feet to a peak elevation of 1,102 feet, gaining roughly 158 feet of elevation. Because the primary surface is gravel, traction remains reliable year-round, although heavy rainfall can make some sections slick. While the main thoroughfare is free of obstacles and rated as very easy, the optional bypasses offer varying degrees of difficulty, making this a popular and high-traffic destination on weekends.

Difficulty

This road is maintained year around. There are not any obstacles on the actual road but there are side areas with fun obstacles you can play around on. Heavy rainfall could make this road slick but the base is primarily gravel so traction should not be much of an issue.

I get a more secluded feel from this unit. It had some great campsites overlooking the bluff, as well as one a little more hidden with a private pond down east a bit where I slept for the night. Most of this trail is gravel but off the Old Decatur road entrance there’s a good little mud spot to drive around in and a couple little mounds to flex your rig out a bit.

Little bit of mud but nothing a normal car couldn’t handle. Plants are starting to grow in the area of the trail but everything is still passable for a full size vehicle.
