Trail Overview
920B Spur is an easy, scenic 0.7-mile out-and-back route in the Lyndon B. Johnson National Grasslands, perfect for beginners, families, and offroaders looking for a quick, relaxed drive below Overlook Bluff. Branching off from Forest Service Road 920, this short trail descends approximately 100 feet through a beautiful wooded landscape, terminating at the boundary of the national grassland property. While the dirt track is well-maintained and suitable for most high-clearance vehicles, four-wheel-drive, and SxSs, drivers must exercise caution right at the entrance. A buried pipe near the start of the trail creates a steep, abrupt speed bump that can easily scrape the undercarriage of lower-clearance rigs.
Because of its narrow width, this road does not have enough room for two vehicles to pass each other, meaning drivers should remain alert and prepare to yield or back up if encountering oncoming traffic. Despite the lack of campsites along 920B itself, plenty of established camping spots are available just above the bluff near the main road. Maintained year-round, the trail offers a reliable escape into nature across all seasons, making it an excellent add-on to a larger day of exploring the area's offroad network.
Access Description
