Trail Overview
Mailbox Road is a scenic desert backroad winding through classic Chihuahuan Desert terrain. The surface is primarily dirt with sections of loose gravel and light washboarding, making it an enjoyable and generally smooth drive in dry conditions. The route features beautiful desert views and cool-looking creek crossings with carved rock and gravel beds that add character to the drive. After rain, these crossings can become softer and slightly more uneven. Mailbox Road also serves as a connector to Goliad Drive, making it a great option for linking routes and extending your time exploring the area.
Difficulty
Mailbox Road is generally suitable for most high-clearance vehicles in dry conditions. The terrain consists of maintained dirt, light gravel, and shallow creek crossings with minimal obstacles. While 4WD is not typically required, drivers should use caution after rainfall when crossings may become soft or uneven.
