Trail Overview

Come and enjoy all that remote Texas beaches have to offer. This route is able to be run with most stock 4WD or AWD vehicles. Please pay special attention to the tides and these beaches are not very tall and can get covered in seawater at high tides. Several vehicles have been lost on this beach. The tide changes and affects this route. Here is the tide chart for the area. https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/noaatidepredictions.html?id=8770971Please do not drive on the dunes and please pack out what you pack in.

Difficulty

There is packed sand for the start and finish which are more ridden on. The middle sections can have soft spots. We suggest riding in vehicle pairs. Please keep an eye on the tide and avoid traveling if in dangerous conditions.

History

Until the late 1980s, a paved highway ran between Port Arthur and High Island. After being destroyed one too many times by hurricanes, the state of Texas decided not to repair it. Old asphalt can be found along the route.

Lots of washed up trash along the trail and spots with soft sand/ mud sections. Pretty fun trail altogether.
