Trail Overview
Loop Camp is a short backcountry route off River Road West in Big Bend National Park that travels through open desert terrain toward the Rio Grande. The road surface is primarily gravel with occasional uneven sections and light ruts along the way. The route provides access to designated backcountry campsites near the river, offering a remote place to camp away from the more developed areas of the park. Along the drive, there are wide-open views of the surrounding desert and mountains. The road ends near the Rio Grande and requires returning the same way you entered.
Difficulty

The route is not technical under normal dry conditions, but drivers should still watch for washed-out or rougher areas that can develop after rain. Good ground clearance is recommended when traveling this road, especially when conditions are wet.
