Trail Overview
Talley Road is a remote gravel backcountry route inside Big Bend National Park that travels through wide-open desert terrain in the southern portion of the park. The road surface is primarily gravel with uneven sections, light ruts, and occasional rough patches typical of less-traveled park roads. This route provides access to the Mariscal Rim Trail trailhead, making it a key access point for hikers heading into one of the most dramatic overlooks above the Rio Grande. Talley Road also offers river access at its end, where the desert landscape meets the water. Along the route, there are four designated primitive campsites spaced out in a quiet and isolated setting. The road is a dead-end and requires returning the same way you entered.
Difficulty
Talley Road is primarily gravel but includes uneven sections, light ruts, and rougher stretches that require good ground clearance. While not highly technical, drivers should be comfortable navigating remote backcountry terrain. Not recommended for low-clearance passenger vehicles.
