Trail Overview

A peaceful gravel route running through the Sam Houston Nation Forest. Bring your camera, hiking shoes , mountain bike and enjoy the trails. The Big Creek Scenic Trail Head lies at the midway point of this route and is a section of The Lonestar Hiking Trail the longest foot path in Texas at 100 miles to 127 miles in length depending if you do the loops. You'll be surrounded by towering pines and wildlife life so sit back and enjoy the views.

Approaching Lone Star Hiking Trail trailhead from the west and just before reaching parking lot, forest service road was fully blocked by recently downed tree.

Great trail that alternates between red dirt and hard limestone gravel. Road was mostly empty other than a few bird watchers.

Perfect sunny Sunday trip up and down the trail today, 1/18/26. There were no obstructions on the trail. Very easy trail that can be done in any vehicle, even 2wd. Very well maintained road way.

Nice peaceful trail. Some rough wash out areas but nothing major. Right before you get to Lone Star hiking trail #12 there is a small trail next to bridge you can get your vehicle into and be right on the water. Very peaceful area
