Trail Overview

The Wilson Loop Trail is a .8 mile long Off- Highway Vehicle trail within the North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area, in the Sundquist Unit north of LaFollette, Tennessee, that makes a loop off of McCormick Cemetery Road. There is a mucky mud hole right at the entrance after the sign on the west side of the loop, but there is an alternate bypass around it. The majority of the trail is relatively easy, with some chunky loose rocks and embedded sandstone rock layers in the trail. The bushes are overgrown at times, with branches sticking out over the trail. Expect a mix of shallow ruts and deeper muddy ruts, some of which persist in the steeper climbs. There is a steep climb on the east end of the loop with more significant mud ruts. It rides along a hillside through southern red oaks and red maple trees. It passes a scenic area on the west side of the loop where you get a view through the trees overlooking the surrounding Cumberland Mountains. It’s just a fun, short loop to check out when riding through the trail system.

Difficulty

This is a moderately easy trail due to mostly flat and gradual sections, with minor obstacles such as ruts and short rock ledges. There are a few steeper spots, but overall the trail is more approachable for riders with a basic experience level. Sections can be narrow, and the trail can become significantly more difficult when wet due to the clay consistency in the dirt. This is rated Easy by the North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area.
