Trail Overview
Jennings Creek Trail is an easy 4x4 trail within the Sundquist Unit of the North Cumberland Off-Highway Vehicle Riding Area. It accesses several easy Off-Highway Vehicle trails, including Tram Branch and Meadow Branch. Jennings Trail meanders the rolling hillsides and forest floor, through a scenic forest of eastern hemlocks and maple trees, and past dense rhododendron thickets. Although the majority of the trail is very easy, it has several narrow sections and some mild features that make it more interesting. There is a deeply troughed section that is dug out below the forest floor, which is slick and muddy and rutted. However, this section is mostly gradual, making it not overly difficult. Any of the steeper sections on this trail are not as rutted out. There are several narrower spots between the thick bushes, and a shallow stream crossing. The trail has frequent flat loose rock and goes past a logged section. There is one optional big embedded rock feature just south of the intersection with School House that covers half of the trail, so most drivers can go around it. It is followed by another one-foot-tall rock ledge that isn’t optional. The southern portion of Jennings Trail that connects to Cumberland Mountain Road was closed for logging operations as of September 2026.
