Trail Overview

Hall Top climbs 1,500 feet over the five-mile route from the rhododendron shaded valley to the rocky peak above. The majority of the route is maintained, but some of the steeper sections are rocky and require a driver to slow down a bit or endure the bumpy ride. At the top, you'll find a fire tower from the 1930s. Although it's missing some of the lower steps, it's obvious that visitors still climb to the top levels frequently. The views of the surrounding Appalachian peaks are astounding.

Relatively tame 1 lane gravel road. Little tight when squeezing past other rigs that are coming down the hill. One small rocky patch the could be easily avoided if you don’t want to attempt.

Trail near the lookout gets pretty rough. A lot of exposed rocks. The f150 with me did need 4x4 for 1 section. Totally worth it for the view.

Nice trail simple to navigate lil rocky and rutted at times the old watch tower was cool to see did it all in 2 wheel drive plenty wide enough for someone who don’t wanna pinstripe. The daily driver the jeep in the photo is my wife’s and she won’t let me wheel it but it’s the one we brought on our vacation to the smokies so we tryed to explore some easy stuff

Decent trail, nothing too technical. Good place to be forced to get more comfortable with your vehicle if you lack experience or confidence. Worth the trip.

Basic trail climbing up to the end where the old fire tower is. Nothing technical to speak of. Just a fun little drive up the mountain. Just a few smaller rocky and slightly rutted sections. Very simple after a day on Rocky Top and cutting over through Big Fill to Hall Top. All the mud you see on the Jeep was from the previous two trails.

Trail Features: • Begins as a standard gravel road • Becomes increasingly rough with elevation gain • Rocky sections and one deeply rutted muddy area • Scenic wooded drive with mountain views • Fire tower at the summit offering panoramic views Trail Report: As a complete beginner, I ran Hall Top Road on 05/14/2025 in my completely stock 2025 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road (only 659 miles on it). I was able to do about 98% of the trail in 2WD with no problems. The trail starts out smooth and easy, but becomes more challenging as you climb, especially near the top where it gets rocky and includes a rutted section that was slippery from recent rain. Even as a first-timer, I had no trouble just took it slow and picked my lines carefully. The views are stunning all the way up, and climbing the fire tower at the summit gave a truly breathtaking panorama. A great confidence-building trail.

road starts off with loose gravel, uneven due to rain run off. towards the top there's a section of rock (maybe 150 feet?) that was definitely the most difficult section, still wasn't too crazy I did it in 2WD and just snaked across
