Trail Overview

Phillips Bend - FS 719A heads north through the forest, ending at a wide grassy clearing near Moss Mill Creek. This 1/10 trail is gravel and grassy two-track the whole way — narrow and close in the trees through the middle stretch, with sections of fresh gravel that keep it easy going. The clearing at the end has room to turn a rig around or spread out for the night, and two trailheads pick up from there: Moss Mill, which is hiker-only, and the Rocky Gap Horse Trail, both dropping toward the Chattooga River. The tree cover is heavy enough that this one is more about the woods than the views, which makes it a beautiful drive in the fall. (Keep an eye out for people on horseback along this route.)
