Trail Overview

The 4th Run Trail is open during select hunting seasons and runs through Hickory Run State Park. It features three water crossings, including one that goes through a tunnel under the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The trail is one vehicle wide with minimal risk of pinstriping and can be completed with a 4WD or a high-clearance AWD vehicle.

Difficulty

This is a dirt road with some small rutted-out areas. The water crossings are normally low however, after heavy rainfall, they have the potential to be deeper and more difficult to traverse. In winter, the water crossings may freeze over, adding difficulty to pass.

Tree down toward the beginning of the trail off of boulder field. I cut a tunnel under the downed tree, but 25 yards up is a locked gate.

The old stage road trail entrance was open but a quarter of the way in was a large downed tree to big to move I went through the hickory run State Park entrance which was. Clear at first but as I got deeper in there were way too many down trees and large branches due to high winds an snow squall's

Covered in snow. Usually very easy, will say there were some spots that you need to be very careful in, slipped off the trail into a rut. Was not able to get out until I engaged my rear locker.

Conditions were fine. Light rain and snow but nothing of note. Connected this with Boulder run Trail for 6.6 total miles.

This trail should definitely not be rated this difficult, I probably could’ve done it in 2H, otherwise it’s a very nice beginner trail and it has some cool features like driving into and over some water. If you have an all-wheel-drive or a four-wheel-drive, you can easily do this trail.

It’s a dirt road with a couple water crossings but definitely not a 4

I'm not sure how this trail was rated 4/10. It is realistically a 2/10 in fairness. It can be done by almost any crossover, no airing down needed, low range needed, and no 4wd needed. I just want to set proper expectation for anyone who may be traveling to come here. That said, it was a very nice scenic trail.
