Trail Overview
Skyline Road North is a wide, gravel road that makes for a scenic and straightforward drive to the beautiful Olallie Lake. The road is well-graded but heavily washboarded and very dusty, especially in dry weather. Along the way, you'll encounter potholes, uneven ground, and occasional branches or trees partially in the roadway, though they're easy to go around. Starting around mile 7, the trail passes through a large burn scar, part of ongoing forest remediation efforts. You'll likely see piles of cut trees and restoration work throughout this area. The final reward is the stunning alpine setting of Olallie Lake, a great spot to relax, paddle, or camp.
Difficulty
Rated a 1 for its wide, accessible route, despite washboards, dust, and light debris. Suitable for nearly any vehicle in dry conditions. A scenic route to a beautiful high-elevation lake, great for day trips or basecamp access.
