Trail Overview

Forest Road 4230 is a narrow two-track trail that leads up to West Pinhead Butte. The trail is wide at the beginning but progressively becomes more narrow. To reach the overlook at the end, there is a short hill climb that is narrow with overgrowth. Wider vehicles will brush. The overlook South is beautiful, with Mount Jefferson in the distance. The trail itself is easy and capable for even 2WD vehicles, with occasional potholes to navigate throughout. The area is unmaintained (closed) in the winter and early spring months. No cell service.

Wet gravel/dirt road with small and large potholes. Some snow, 2wd with the rear locked. The end before the view point of Jefferson and 3 Finger Jack gets really narrow. Full size vehicles will get pinstripes.

Very large downed tree has been cut/cleared but maneuvering a midsize pickup was fairly difficult. Could have made it through but didn't think payoff would be worth it so turned around. I imagine a full size wouldn't be able to pass.
