Trail Overview

The Osterman Cabin Trail runs East to West through Siuslaw National Forest in Oregon. This trail is very easy besides a few washed-out areas at the top. There are several campsites along the way, while the campsite at the east end of the trail has a nice view of the ocean. Spotty cell service can be found throughout the trail, but it's good practice to download offline maps.

Easy and beautiful trail with plenty of side roads to explore, but be careful. Encountered 1 active camp site, 2 abandoned transient sites and a couple areas that are for parties. So much garbage 😞

Saw two other parked vehicles near the west end of the trail. Other than that, very quiet and decent forest views. Campsite at the end of the trail was covered in trash unfortunately.

Dusty. Texture in road was more variable than expected. Steep dropoffs.

Easy trail, nice maintained service road. Some spots are single wide but planty of spots to pull over to the side. Beautiful wild flowers and you can see Lake Diablo in the distance. 1300 feet elevation gain. Beautiful forest.

Great opportunity to just take a drive in our beautiful PNW. A couple opportunities to get a little squirrelly off the main roads of this trail, but I’d recommend some good tires and definitely 4L for that. No major issues. A couple of downed trees that had been cleared, and one that hadn’t, but had decent clearance. Bring a chainsaw and a rope just in case and you should be good to go. There are also a couple of good spots to shoot if that’s your thing. If I did this again depending on the season I might pack a lunch and eat at the top of the trail. Definitely a great, quick opportunity to get lost in nature, sans the lost part.
