Trail Overview

Lewis Creek is an easy, scenic gravel drive through the lush Siuslaw National Forest, perfect for beginners, families, and anyone looking to escape into a dense canopy of mossy trees. Spanning approximately 5 miles with just over 1,000 feet of elevation gain, this single-lane road with frequent pullouts serves as an excellent, low-stress introduction to off-roading in the Pacific Northwest. The route winds through a vibrant, deeply forested landscape, offering a tranquil experience as it climbs from around 357 feet to a peak elevation of 1,149 feet. Most stock four-wheel-drive vehicles, high-clearance rigs, and even adventure-oriented SxSs will easily navigate this trail, as it features a gentle average gradient of under four degrees and poses very minimal technical challenges. While the gravel surface remains highly accessible during the warmer months, travelers should note that this forest road is not maintained in the winter, and snow or fallen debris can quickly change the driving conditions. Along the journey, a handful of dispersed camping options are available, including one primary well-established campsite and several smaller pull-offs suitable for a quick overnight setup. The trail connects seamlessly with nearby forest service routes near Highway 101 and Oregon Route 130, making it a fantastic addition to a longer day of exploring the coastal mountains. Remember to watch for oncoming traffic on the tighter, curvier blind bends and practice Tread Lightly principles to preserve this pristine, moss-draped forest environment.

One tight corner had a serious washout. About 2ft of road was gone and the supporting ground underneath was undermined.
